'Huge surprise' - Man United insider shares verdict on Calvert-Lewin deal

Former Man United scout Mick Brown says signing Calvert-Lewin would be a "huge surprise"; the club views him as inconsistent and not the right profile despite recent form.

Manchester United have Dominic Calvert-Lewin on their radar as a potential January target, but former Red Devils chief scout Mick Brown believes a move would be unlikely. Calvert-Lewin, 29, has impressed at Leeds United this season with five goals in 11 games and has been included in England's squad, prompting interest from Old Trafford's scouting team.

However, Brown told Football Insider that while Calvert-Lewin possesses valuable attributes—aerial ability, hold-up play, and improved finishing—he does not fit the profile Man United are seeking. "It would be a huge surprise if Man United made a move to sign him," Brown said. "They need somebody capable of turning up week in, week out. Calvert-Lewin is far too inconsistent, he's just not the right fit."

Any deal is unlikely to materialise regardless, as Leeds United have made clear they will not entertain offers for their striker in the January window. With two years remaining on his contract, Calvert-Lewin remains central to Daniel Farke's plans.
