"Nothing to do with football" – Liam Rosenior opens up on Chelsea sack and behind scenes issues

Rosenior says his four-month Chelsea spell was the 'best and hardest' experience, blaming media scrutiny and preconceived notions of how a Premier League manager should behave for his departure.

Liam Rosenior, now manager of Paris FC, has opened up about his brief spell at Chelsea in an interview with So Foot. The 42-year-old was appointed in January following Enzo Maresca's departure and made an impressive start, winning six of his first seven matches. However, his tenure unravelled dramatically, with Chelsea winning just four of their next 16 games and losing seven of their last eight fixtures before he was sacked in April.

When asked what went wrong, Rosenior described it as "the best experience of my life, and the hardest too," but declined to elaborate fully, saying "what happened there has nothing to do with football." He later explained that the turning point came after an initial five-game winning streak, which he felt should have satisfied any club but not Chelsea. He cited intense media scrutiny over his tactical instructions, his clothing choices, and his manner of speaking as contributing factors.

Rosenior expressed frustration at English football's preconceived notions of how a Premier League manager should behave and conduct himself. He concluded that his time at Chelsea taught him a crucial lesson: that media and social media narratives can construct an entire story around a club's trajectory, regardless of on-pitch performance. He is now settled at Paris FC with five wins and two draws in nine matches.
