Liam Rosenior speaks out on Chelsea struggles in new interview: 'I'm not a joke'

Rosenior reflects on his four-month Chelsea tenure, defending his methods and criticising media treatment during his sacking in April.

Liam Rosenior has broken his silence on his brief spell as Chelsea manager, describing it as "the best experience of my life" despite lasting only 107 days before his sacking in April. The former Blues boss was dismissed after the club lost five consecutive league games without scoring, a run not seen since 1912.

In an interview with French outlet So Foot, Rosenior addressed the media scrutiny and public criticism he faced during his tenure. He pointed to a "snowball effect" in the media coverage, citing specific incidents such as mockery over tactical instructions he wrote on paper for Alejandro Garnacho during a match against PSG when Chelsea were down to ten men, and criticism of his clothing and manner of speaking. "I'm not a joke," he said, emphasising that the narrative around him extended beyond football.

Rosenior, now thriving at Paris FC, reflected on the broader lessons from his Chelsea experience. He highlighted how social media and traditional media can shape public perception of players and coaches, and how they construct the narrative around a club's trajectory. He suggested that in England there is a preconceived notion of how a Premier League manager should behave and present himself, and that he struggled to conform to that standard while remaining authentic.
