'He could manage Manchester United' - What next for Cristiano Ronaldo after Portugal retirement

Former Manchester United strength coach Mick Clegg believes Ronaldo could pursue management or ownership roles after retiring from international football.

Cristiano Ronaldo has retired from international football after 146 goals in 234 caps for Portugal, ending his career with the national team at age 41. He will continue playing at club level and is targeting 1,000 career goals.

Mick Clegg, who spent 11 years as Manchester United's strength and conditioning coach during Ronaldo's first spell at the club, believes the Portuguese star is well-suited for management. "I think he'd be special as a manager, because he's open-minded, he listens to people," Clegg said. "He knows himself, but also knows what goes on around him." Clegg is convinced Ronaldo is already planning his post-playing career and could see him returning to United in a managerial or ownership capacity.

Ronaldo's international retirement came after a falling-out with Portugal manager Jorge Jesus during the last international camp. Clegg rejected suggestions that ego drove the decision, noting that Ronaldo's meticulous planning and self-awareness would guide his next moves, just as it shaped his entire career.
