Man United squad savaged as Fabio Capello pulls no punches after remarkable Roma win

Capello criticized United's comeback win over Roma, saying their squad lacks exceptional players and calling them average.

Manchester United completed a remarkable Champions League comeback at Old Trafford, with Matheus Cunha scoring two late goals to overturn a 2-0 deficit against Roma. The result prompted strong reactions from pundits and Roma figures.

Former England manager Fabio Capello, working as a pundit for Sky's Italian Champions League coverage, was particularly critical of United's squad quality. "This Manchester United team does not have exceptional players who can turn a game around from one minute to the next. They have average players," Capello said. "That's why it hurts more than against Real Madrid," referring to Roma's earlier 4-3 loss to Madrid where they led 3-1 entering the 83rd minute.

Roma's former captain Alessandro Florenzi agreed with the assessment, saying the Manchester defeat hurt more because Roma played well for 83 minutes but only managed one good half overall. former Roma head coach Gian Piero Gasperini, however, disputed direct comparisons between the two defeats, attributing the loss to a lack of energy in the second half and two unfortunate goals, including one from a retaken penalty.
