Spanish football pays tribute to deceased Tenerife forward De Miguel this weekend

Spanish football will unite this weekend to honour Tenerife forward Jesús de Miguel, 30, who died from a heart attack following a collision during a match.

Jesús de Miguel, a 30-year-old forward for Tenerife, died from a heart attack in hospital following a collision during a match against Andorra. Spanish football will pay tribute across all divisions this weekend.

Every match in La Liga, Segunda División and Liga F will feature the same coordinated tribute. Players will wear special shirts bearing the number 9 and the text "always in our memory". Before each game, referees will lead both teams to the spot on the pitch where De Miguel's incident occurred. The captains will lay a wreath of flowers, followed by a minute's silence with photos of De Miguel displayed on stadium screens.

Additionally, play will be halted in the ninth minute of every match for a video tribute, after which players and supporters will applaud. Tenerife will hold a separate memorial event on Saturday, 7 November at Estadio Heliodoro Rodríguez López, broadcast live on LaLiga Hypermotion and official RFEF channels.
