Athletic's trio stays firm in Spain squad

Unai Simón, Laporte and Nico Williams retained in Spain squad for Nations League matches against Czech Republic and England.

Athletic Club's three Spain internationals — goalkeeper Unai Simón, defender Laporte and winger Nico Williams — have been retained in Luis de la Fuente's squad for the final two Nations League group-stage matches. Spain face Czech Republic in Prague on Thursday 12 November and England at the Metropolitano on Sunday 15 November. Spain lead the group with a perfect 12 points and will determine their knockout-stage seeding with these fixtures.

All three were instrumental in Spain's World Cup triumph last summer, with Simón and Laporte starting every match. Nico Williams suffered an injury against Croatia in September but has recovered. Simón has now earned 69 caps and recently won the Yashin Trophy as the world's best goalkeeper at the awards ceremony in London.
