Forbs returns to Portugal in post-Ronaldo era

The 22-year-old winger has been called up by Portugal manager Jorge Jesus after impressing at Club Brugge with five goals and eight assists in 13 games.

Carlos Forbs has been recalled to the Portugal national team by manager Jorge Jesus following an excellent run of form at Club Brugge. The 22-year-old right winger has scored five goals and provided eight assists in 13 official matches for the Belgian champions this season, including a goal in Wednesday's Champions League win at PSV and three assists in a 4-3 victory at Inter Milan.

Forbs, who left Portugal as a youth to join Manchester City's academy, made his senior debut for Portugal in a World Cup qualifier against Armenia a year ago. Portugal will finish their international calendar without Cristiano Ronaldo, facing Denmark and Slovakia in Nations League matches where a single point from the two games would secure top spot in their group.
