Bouwman and Schaken debut in Netherlands U21 squad for Euro play-offs

Michael Reiziger names 23-player squad for Netherlands U21 Euro play-off ties against Denmark on 13 and 17 November, with Ajax defender Bouwman and Feyenoord winger Schaken earning first call-ups.

Michael Reiziger has announced the Netherlands U21 squad for the crucial Euro qualifying play-offs against Denmark. Ajax centre-back Aaron Bouwman and Feyenoord winger Jerayno Schaken make their debuts for the side after progressing through the Dutch youth system. Bouwman is a regular starter under Míchel Sánchez at Ajax, while Schaken has recently made his Champions League debut for Feyenoord against Internazionale.

Feyenoord right-back Givairo Read, who captains the U21 side under Reiziger, is also included but was overlooked by senior coach Xavi Hernández for the main national team squad. AZ Alkmaar are the leading suppliers with six players: Ro-Zangelo Daal, Elijah Dijkstra, Wouter Goes, Dave Kwakman, Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro and Kees Smit. Newcastle United midfielder Sean Steur also returns to the squad.

The Netherlands U21 face Denmark away on 13 November before hosting the return leg on 17 November, with a place at the Euro finals in their own country at stake.
