Chelsea XI vs Sunderland: Confirmed team news, predicted lineup, injury latest for Premier League

Martinez back in training and could feature after jaw surgery; Caicedo a doubt with discomfort from United match.

Chelsea prepare for their trip to Sunderland with several fitness concerns to resolve. Emi Martinez, the summer signing recovering from a fractured jaw suffered against Everton, has returned to training this week wearing a protective face mask and could play on Wearside depending on manager Xabi Alonso's decision. Young goalkeeper Mike Penders kept a clean sheet in last weekend's 2-0 win over Manchester United, but Martinez's recovery has progressed ahead of schedule.

Moises Caicedo is a doubt after feeling discomfort following the United match and will be assessed in the final training session before Sunday's fixture. Aaron Anselmino has also been involved in training after being selected for Argentina's international window. Romeo Lavia impressed in midfield against United and could retain his place, while Estevao's strong performance may also earn him another start.

Joao Pedro, Maxence Lacroix, Jorrel Hato and captain Reece James remain sidelined, with James unlikely to return until January following knee surgery. Winger Jamie Gittens is out for several weeks with an ankle injury sustained on England U21 duty.
