Germany's Adeyemi omission called 'major surprise' by German media

Karim Adeyemi has been left out of Germany's squad for upcoming matches against Serbia (13 November) and the Netherlands (16 November), a decision German media has called a major surprise. The Barcelona winger, who returned to new manager Jürgen Klopp's initial 44-player squad, was excluded from the final selection despite showing promise at the club this season with four goals and three assists in 14 appearances.

The omission has divided opinion among former internationals. Ex-midfielder Didi Hamann expressed surprise at the decision, saying Adeyemi's pace is rare and that he would have selected him. Hamann praised Hansi Flick's faith in bringing Adeyemi to Barcelona, noting he has performed well since arriving from Borussia Dortmund.

However, 2014 World Cup winner Roman Weidenfeller, a former Dortmund goalkeeper who knows Klopp well, offered insight into Klopp's reasoning. He pointed to Adeyemi's missed chance against the Netherlands in the recent friendly and suggested defensive lapses—specifically slow recovery when retreating—may have frustrated Klopp, who demands defensive discipline. Weidenfeller speculated the omission could be a warning to the player.
