Sources: Man United accelerate plan to sign defender in January

Manchester United are accelerating plans to sign a right-back in January, with Roma's Wesley among their targets as Diogo Dalot struggles for form.

Manchester United are planning to strengthen their right-back options in the January transfer window as Diogo Dalot has come under intense scrutiny for his performances this season. The 27-year-old has been a regular under manager Michael Carrick but United's hierarchy believe defensive reinforcements are needed across the backline after a poor start to the Premier League campaign.

Sources have revealed that Roma right-back Wesley, 23, is admired by United's recruitment team. The Brazilian international has recorded three assists in nine Serie A appearances this season and is under contract at Roma until 2030, meaning any deal would require a significant investment. Wesley is also attracting interest from other European clubs.
