Genesio wary of 'reaction from wounded Lens' after Como humiliation

Genesio warns Marseille not to underestimate Lens despite their 9-1 Champions League loss to Como, saying wounded teams often react strongly.

Olympique de Marseille travel to RC Lens on Sunday (20:45) for a Ligue 1 clash following Lens's historic 9-1 defeat to Como in the Champions League. Despite the Artois club's humiliation, Marseille manager Bruno Genesio urged caution in his pre-match press conference, warning his side not to be complacent against a team likely to show a strong reaction.

"We shouldn't focus too much on Lens's situation against Como," Genesio said. "There are matches where everything smiles on the opponent and nothing goes our way." The Marseille boss, who endured a difficult start to his tenure with six defeats in his first eight official matches, expressed empathy for Lens but stressed the importance of humility. Marseille have won four consecutive Ligue 1 games since the winter break and sit in strong form, but Genesio insisted his team must remain grounded. "Certainties are dangerous in football," he added.
