Valentín Gómez makes Argentina debut

Real Betis defender Valentín Gómez made his Argentina debut in a 4-0 friendly win over Bolivia, coming on as a substitute in the 81st minute.

Valentín Gómez, the 23-year-old Real Betis centre-back, earned his first cap for Argentina's senior side on Wednesday night, replacing Lisandro Martínez in the 81st minute of a 4-0 friendly victory over Bolivia in Córdoba. The defender became the 70th player to debut under manager Lionel Scaloni. Gómez arrived at Betis in summer 2025 from Vélez Sarsfield for €5.3 million and has since made 45 official appearances for the Spanish club. The match marked Argentina's first game in the post-Messi era, with the legendary forward retiring from international football and set to be honoured in Buenos Aires next week.
