Former Spain international: "Prison didn't help me, but time passed quickly"

Former Spain international Juanele reflects on his prison sentences and football career, saying incarceration didn't help him despite playing in the 1994 World Cup.

Juanele, a 55-year-old former Spain international who represented his country at the 1994 World Cup in the USA, has opened up about his two prison sentences in an interview with AS. He served three months following a bar incident and later a full year in 2015 after being convicted of domestic abuse. While he acknowledges the prison time didn't benefit him, Juanele says playing football inside helped pass the time. He expressed pride in his 15-year elite career with Sporting, Tenerife, and Zaragoza, and his five caps for Spain with two goals.
