UEFA Nations League
Xavi proves Koeman wrong on Saudi league as defence underperforms
Summarised by MatchPal
Xavi's first international window as Netherlands coach saw Saudi Pro League players Summerville and Reijnders top performance ratings, vindicating his selection policy over predecessor Koeman's exclusion of that league.
After Netherlands' first matches under new coach Xavi Hernández, VI ratings showed Saudi Pro League players excelled: Al-Hilal's Crysencio Summerville averaged 6.88 and Al-Qadsiah's Tijjani Reijnders 6.50, the two highest scores. This contrasts with predecessor Ronald Koeman's refusal to select players from Saudi Arabia. Xavi's openness to the league proved justified. Defenders underperformed overall, with Virgil van Dijk, Jan Paul van Hecke and Micky van de Ven all scoring below 6.0.
