Fate smiles on Athletic with Copa draw

Athletic drawn against Catalan side Prat in Copa del Rey first round, mirroring their 2021 cup-winning campaign.

Athletic have been drawn against Catalan Liga Élite side Prat in the Copa del Rey first round, a fixture that echoes their 2021 cup-winning season when they debuted in the same round against Rubí. The Basque club must overturn a 1-5 deficit from the preliminary round first leg against Sant Rafel before facing Prat. Three years ago, Athletic won the Copa del Rey after progressing through the first round against Rubí and eventually defeating Barcelona, Atlético Madrid and Mallorca in the knockout stages.
