Corinthians sacks Diniz after drastic decision

Diniz sacked after six months and seven consecutive league defeats; Corinthians 16th, one place above the drop zone.

Corinthians has dismissed manager Fernando Diniz after six months in charge, following a 2-1 home loss to Internacional today. The São Paulo club, struggling in 16th place just one position above the relegation zone, cited seven consecutive league defeats as the reason. Diniz compiled a record of 13 wins, 8 draws and 12 losses across 33 matches in all competitions, and the club was also eliminated from the Copa do Brasil and Copa Libertadores in the quarter-finals. Executive Marcelo Paz said the team needs "a new phase" to return to winning ways.
