Sunderland should leave out Omar Alderete after injury update

Sunderland defender Omar Alderete missed Wednesday training and should be dropped for Thursday's Europa League trip to Lech Poznan after a poor display against Bournemouth.

Omar Alderete missed Sunderland training on Wednesday and is being tipped to sit out Thursday's Europa League away fixture against Lech Poznan. The 29-year-old defender had a poor outing in Sunderland's 2-0 Premier League defeat to Bournemouth last weekend, and despite being fit to play, manager Regis Le Bris should give another centre-back a chance in European competition. Alderete was a standout performer for Sunderland last season after joining from Getafe, making 34 appearances as they qualified for the Europa League.
