How Arsenal fell into a crisis of their own making

Arsenal Women have made their worst-ever WSL start and are already out of the title race, 12 points behind Manchester City after five games without a win.

Arsenal Women have made their worst-ever start to a Women's Super League season, winning just once in their opening five games and sitting eighth, 12 points behind leaders Manchester City. The Gunners drew 1-1 with newly-promoted Birmingham on Saturday, prompting boos at the Emirates. The club's longest-ever WSL winless run has left them out of the title race just two months into the season, with pressure mounting on manager Renee Slegers. Arsenal have not won the league title in nearly eight years and finished runners-up in the last two seasons without mounting a serious challenge.
