Florence questions De Gea, but Viola need their leader

De Gea's early-season struggles at Fiorentina are under scrutiny as the club sits second-to-last with just four points in seven matches; his xG avoided stat ranks last in Serie A.

Fiorentina's poor start to the season has put David De Gea's performances under the microscope. The Spanish goalkeeper conceded a soft goal in Sunday's 3-1 defeat to Como, but the broader concern is statistical: Fiorentina has the worst defence in Serie A with 17 goals conceded, and De Gea ranks last in expected goals avoided (xG) with a -3.4 rating, meaning he has conceded more goals than expected based on shot quality. While the club's struggles are distributed across multiple departments, De Gea's form and significant wage bill have sparked debate among supporters about whether the once-reliable goalkeeper can return to his previous standard.
