Michael Carrick delivered brutal Man United comparison after squad speaks out

Owen Hargreaves says Bruno Fernandes would never play for United again under Sir Alex Ferguson for publicly questioning Michael Carrick's tactics after the Como loss.

Owen Hargreaves has drawn a stark comparison between current Manchester United standards and the Sir Alex Ferguson era, arguing that Bruno Fernandes' recent public criticism of manager Michael Carrick would have ended his United career under the legendary boss.

Fernandes questioned Carrick's tactical decisions following United's Champions League defeat to Como, suggesting the staff chose not to press man-to-man and left space behind. When asked if Carrick got it wrong, Fernandes said: "That's on the manager and staff to see it, not me."

Hargreaves told TNT Sports that such comments would have been unthinkable under Ferguson: "You would have never said that under Sir Alex because you would never have played again for the football club." He added that players should look at themselves first rather than blame the manager. Carrick has not punished Fernandes, who remains club captain and is expected to start against Bournemouth on Sunday. When asked about potential captaincy removal, Carrick declined to confirm details, saying he would do "what's best for the football club."
