Roberto De Zerbi issues James Maddison injury update after Tottenham blow

Maddison pulled up with a groin injury during Tottenham's win over Chelsea and will undergo scans Sunday; De Zerbi hopes it is not serious.

James Maddison was forced off during Tottenham's victory over Chelsea after pulling up with a groin injury while off the ball. The midfielder, playing his second game in six days, sat down on the pitch and was unable to continue, with Conor Gallagher brought on as his replacement.

Maddison will undergo scans on Sunday to determine the extent of the injury. Manager Roberto De Zerbi expressed cautious optimism after the match, telling reporters: "Not very important problem I hope. We need to make the medical check tomorrow." He added to BBC Sport: "I think it is not a big problem. We have to see." De Zerbi praised Maddison's quality, saying "Anyone who loves football, loves James Maddison. He is a special player."
