Michael Carrick says waving to fans after Bournemouth thrashing 'wasn't a farewell'

Carrick says his wave to fans after the 3-0 loss to Bournemouth was not a farewell, but admits uncertainty over his job after United's worst start in 40 years.

Michael Carrick insisted he was not saying goodbye to Manchester United after their 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth, despite waving to supporters as he left the pitch. The manager admitted he does not know whether he will be sacked following the loss.

United have made their worst start to a season in 40 years and lost their last two games by three goals, following Wednesday's 4-1 thrashing by Como. Bournemouth supporters taunted Carrick with chants of "sacked in the morning", but he was still supported by United fans inside Old Trafford.

Carrick said he had only a brief conversation with the United hierarchy after the game and is uncertain whether chief executive Omar Berrada and sporting director Jason Wilcox will dismiss him. "I'm not expecting anything in particular, to be honest. I am carrying on as normal," he said. He acknowledged the players are hurting but insisted they care deeply about the club's position.
