Athletic Club face uncertainty over key midfield options ahead of Sunday's Basque derby against Real Sociedad at San Mamés. Iñigo Ruiz de Galarreta is a doubt after suffering right leg discomfort in the 18th minute of Sunday's match against Getafe, forcing manager Edin Terzic to substitute him. Terzic confirmed the injury in his post-match press conference.

Galarreta's absence would be significant — he is Athletic's most recent goalscorer in official derbis, having netted the equaliser in a 3-2 win at Anoeta. The midfielder has been relatively injury-free for nearly two years after a history of fitness problems.

Oihan Sancet is also a doubt with a calf injury but has not been ruled out. Gorka Guruzeta is confirmed out for the season after a cruciate ligament tear, while Eguiluz is also unavailable. Athletic will not risk Galarreta in Thursday's Copa del Rey match against Prat, hoping to have him available for the derby.
