Distrust after Ballon d'Or result: 'It was all staged'

Spanish media question the legitimacy of Kane's Ballon d'Or win, with critics suggesting the ceremony was staged and expressing frustration that Yamal and Mbappé didn't win.

Harry Kane's Ballon d'Or victory has sparked controversy in Spain and France, with media outlets and football figures questioning the award's credibility. Spanish journalist Guti remarked that the ceremony being held in London and won by a Londoner seemed suspicious, claiming "it all looked completely staged." Marca reported criticism of Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappé's conduct at the ceremony, noting they appeared unhappy when Kane was announced as winner and didn't stand to applaud.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta defended Yamal, insisting the young winger will win the Ballon d'Or in the future and deserves recognition as a unique talent. Yamal's uncle, interviewed at the family restaurant in Catalonia, expressed confidence his nephew would eventually win five Ballon d'Ors, suggesting Kane's age (33) gave him an unfair advantage.

French media framed Kane's win as a lesson for Mbappé, who finished second for the second consecutive year. L'Équipe suggested Kane demonstrated that perseverance is key to being rewarded for talent, and that Mbappé must redouble his efforts to win the award.
