Ballon d'Or 2026: suspense delivers historic TV audience for ceremony

Harry Kane won the 2026 Ballon d'Or; the ceremony drew a record 3.1 million French TV viewers, nearly double last year's audience.

The 70th Ballon d'Or ceremony held Monday at London Palladium drew record television audiences in France. Between 21:44 and 00:05, an average of 2.2 million viewers watched on L'Équipe, peaking at 3.1 million when Harry Kane received the award ahead of Kylian Mbappé and Lamine Yamal. The 17% audience share made L'Équipe the top French channel during the broadcast window.

The viewership represents a significant jump from 2025, when Ousmane Dembélé's win drew 1.6 million average viewers (8.6% share) from the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. The ceremony was delayed by approximately 30 minutes due to technical issues on site, which affected early viewing figures.
