Man United are in a huge mess of their own making - we all know how it ends for Michael Carrick

Carrick retained as interim manager after Bournemouth loss, but uncertainty over his future and the club's direction remains amid squad unrest.

Manchester United have confirmed Michael Carrick will continue as interim manager following a 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth, but the decision came only after a day of deliberation by the club's hierarchy. The announcement offers no clarity on whether Carrick has the board's full backing or faces the axe during the November international break in three games' time.

Senior players Lisandro Martinez and Bruno Fernandes have publicly criticised the club's tactics and direction, with frustration directed at Carrick and Technical Director Jason Wilcox. The delay in confirming Carrick's status has raised fresh questions about decision-making at Old Trafford, where the club faces its latest autumn crisis. The article draws parallels to previous managerial situations—Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's temporary role becoming permanent before his eventual sacking, and Erik ten Hag's new contract preceding his dismissal by months—suggesting a pattern of muddled planning at the club.
