What Andoni Iraola did at Anfield speaks volumes after Liverpool Xabi Alonso U-turn

Iraola secured his first Premier League home win at Anfield against Brighton, easing early pressure despite Liverpool's strong overall record under the new manager.

Andoni Iraola has made an impressive start as Liverpool manager, winning eight of his first 12 matches despite taking until late October to record his first Premier League victory at Anfield. The Basque coach's emotional celebration after beating Brighton highlighted the relief of that milestone, though the timing reflects the fixture list rather than any underlying struggle. Liverpool have already claimed three home wins in European competitions under Iraola—against Atletico Madrid, Tottenham and Villarreal in the Champions League and League Cup—and sit in the top four after the Brighton victory.

The narrative around Iraola's appointment has shifted dramatically. Liverpool supporters had hoped Xabi Alonso would return to manage the club after Jurgen Klopp's departure, but Alonso instead joined Chelsea. When the two managers meet in the Carabao Cup at Anfield on Wednesday night, there will be no regret from the Kop. Iraola has already won over the fanbase with his football and demeanor, and supporters are content with their new era rather than wondering what might have been with Alonso.
