Terzic on Simón: "It's a wonderful story showing you don't have to leave Athletic to be the world's best"

Terzic praised Simón's Yashin Trophy win, highlighting that Athletic's academy and culture enabled him to reach world-class level without leaving the club.

Athletic manager Terzic celebrated goalkeeper Unai Simón's recent Yashin Trophy award as world's best goalkeeper, emphasizing that the achievement demonstrates a player can reach the pinnacle of football while staying at Athletic Club.

"The wonderful story is that he has shown he doesn't have to leave this club or this city to be the best in the world. You can achieve it here," Terzic said. "Lifting the biggest trophy as a team (World Cup) and being the best player in your position can be done from this marvellous club."

Terzic also praised the work of Athletic's goalkeeper coaching staff, including first-team goalkeeper coach Aitor Iru and fellow keepers Padilla and Santos, who train daily with Simón. He noted that while he's pleased the world now recognizes Simón's quality, his own appreciation for the goalkeeper hasn't changed. Simón will rest for Athletic's Copa del Rey opener against Prat, with Padilla expected to start.
