Ramos on Amorim's faith and Benfica dream: "I hope to return one day"

Portuguese striker Ramos explains how Amorim's call during the World Cup convinced him to join Milan from PSG, where he felt out of position.

Goncalo Ramos has settled at Milan following his summer arrival from Paris Saint-Germain. The Portuguese forward revealed that manager Ruben Amorim, his compatriot, played a decisive role in the transfer. Amorim called him during the World Cup to express his desire to sign him, after an initial attempt to leave PSG in January had been blocked by the club.

"Ruben called me and told me he wanted me," Ramos said. "I wanted to leave PSG in January but it wasn't easy and the club opposed it. During the World Cup, Milan called and Amorim told me we would do great things together. I thanked him for his confidence." At PSG, Ramos struggled to play in his preferred central striker role; at Milan, he has regained that position. "Now I can do what I'm good at," he stated.

In the Milan dressing room, Ramos has found fellow midfielder Luka Modric. "We get along very well and sit next to each other in the dressing room. He's very quiet but joins in when there's joking around," Ramos said. While focused on his present at Milan, Ramos harbours a dream of returning to Benfica, the club where he grew up. "I always watch their matches. It's hard to promise, but I hope to return one day. In Portugal I could only play for Benfica—I spent my whole life there. It would be like a betrayal to play for other clubs."
