Jon Martín: "I value every match and every minute I'm on the pitch"

Real Sociedad defender Jon Martín says he relishes big matches and hostile atmospheres as the Basque side prepare for Sunday's derby at Athletic Bilbao.

Real Sociedad return to training on Wednesday to prepare for Sunday's Basque derby against Athletic Bilbao at San Mamés (21:00), coming off four consecutive league wins and a Europa League victory.

Defender Jon Martín expressed his motivation for the fixture in an interview at Zubieta. "It's a special match, a derby. They're always very emotional and special, so we go with everything, with a lot of motivation and confidence," he said. Martín highlighted his recent form in derbies and praised the team's attacking approach under manager Matarazzo, noting that while it leaves them exposed defensively, the aggressive pressing and confidence compensate. "Personally, I'm someone who likes this type of match and the heated atmosphere motivates me," he added.

The 23-year-old also reflected on his journey to the first team, emphasizing his gratitude for every minute on the pitch. "The football world is complicated because everything can change from one day to the next, and I value every match, every minute and every moment I can be on the pitch," Martín said.
