Sources: Alex Baena to Arsenal update

Arsenal have Atletico Madrid winger Baena on their radar but won't pursue him until next summer; Atletico will block any January approach.

Arsenal have identified Atletico Madrid winger Alex Baena as a target, but sources say the Spanish club will not entertain any offers for the 25-year-old in the January window. Simeone's side view Baena as a crucial part of their project and are unwilling to lose him mid-season. The Gunners admire Baena's versatility—he typically plays on the left wing but can also operate in attacking midfield—and his form this season (five goals, three assists) has impressed Mikel Arteta. Baena's reputation has grown further following Spain's World Cup triumph. However, Atletico have him tied to a long-term contract until 2030 and are unlikely to sell unless Arsenal make a substantial offer. Any realistic move is expected to come next summer rather than in January.
