Kane found guard of honour uncomfortable and reflects on 'bizarre week'

Kane won the Ballon d'Or on Monday but found the attention uncomfortable, calling the week 'bizarre' as he prepares to thank Bayern teammates with gifts.

Harry Kane was honoured with a guard of honour by Bayern Munich teammates on Wednesday after winning the Ballon d'Or, though the modest striker admitted he found the attention awkward. 'It's strange, I don't usually enjoy this sort of thing,' Kane told Bild. 'When I came out for the warm-up everyone stood up to applaud. I don't know, I found it a bit uncomfortable. But I understand it's a big deal.'

Kane described Monday's award ceremony as an emotional rollercoaster. 'It's been a really bizarre week,' he said. 'Monday was incredible. I was very nervous beforehand and felt completely different emotions than during a match. It was mostly a lot of waiting, imagining what it would be like to actually win the Ballon d'Or. It was all very special. The number of messages I received was overwhelming.' He was rested for Bayern's cup match against Magdeburg ahead of a key fixture with Borussia Dortmund.

Kane plans to thank his teammates with gifts, having been asked for watches by some players. He also responded coyly to speculation in Britain about him receiving a knighthood like David Beckham and Alex Ferguson. 'I would feel honoured, that would be incredible and make me very proud,' he said. 'Sir Harry sounds good, but I'd find it strange if everyone called me Sir. So for now I'll just stick with Harry.'
