Chelsea should finalise Josh Acheampong deal immediately, his full stats vs Liverpool are quite something

Chelsea defender Acheampong impressed against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup; Alonso's faith in him may help convince his representatives to agree a contract extension.

Josh Acheampong delivered a standout performance in Chelsea's Carabao Cup draw with Liverpool, which the Blues lost on penalties. The 20-year-old right-back kept Liverpool's Rio Ngumoha quiet and made three tackles—joint-most on the pitch—along with a block, six clearances, an interception and two recoveries. He won four of six ground duels and all three aerial duels contested.

Alonso has started Acheampong in four consecutive games without substituting him, signalling the manager's confidence in the England youth international. Though Acheampong's contract runs until 2029, his representatives have been reluctant to enter renewal talks until convinced Chelsea is the right place for his development. Arsenal are among the clubs seriously interested in the defender, but Chelsea have reportedly rejected approaches from European clubs and two Premier League sides, viewing him as untouchable under the new era.
