Max Dowman to miss three games after Arsenal's red card appeal rejected

The 16-year-old was sent off for kicking out at Fleetwood and will miss three Premier League matches after the FA rejected Arsenal's appeal.

Arsenal's appeal against Max Dowman's red card in their Carabao Cup defeat at Fleetwood has been rejected by an independent commission. The 16-year-old was sent off in the 85th minute for a kick out at Harrison Neal following a tackle, with Fleetwood winning 1-1 after penalties.

The FA confirmed on Thursday that the independent commission dismissed both claims of wrongful dismissal and excessive punishment. Dowman will now miss three matches: Sunday's Premier League trip to Liverpool, the home game against Hull, and the trip to Newcastle after the international break.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said after the match he had not spoken to Dowman about the dismissal but emphasised the importance of emotional control during the match preparation.
