Flick confirms Barcelona will pursue a centre-back: "If we can, we will"

Flick confirmed Barcelona are actively pursuing a centre-back signing in the January transfer window, with several weeks remaining before the market opens.

Barcelona manager Hansi Flick confirmed the club is planning to sign a centre-back in the January transfer window. "We always talk about what's best for the team and how we can improve it. This is something we're doing. We'll see. We have a few weeks left before the market opens. We've discussed it with Deco, Bojan and my staff. That's how we do things. If we can, we will," Flick said ahead of Saturday's match against Alavés.

Flick also downplayed Barcelona's recent consecutive defeats to PSG and Real Madrid, emphasizing the long road ahead in the season. He noted the club is dealing with multiple defensive absences, including Jules Koundé, Xavi Espart, Dani Olmo, Eric García, and Christensen. With only two natural centre-backs available—Cubarsí and Gerard Martín—Flick suggested Frenkie de Jong could operate as a centre-back against Alavés if needed.
