Maxence Lacroix sustained a hamstring tear during Chelsea's penalty shootout defeat to Liverpool on Wednesday and has been ruled out for approximately two months. Medical examinations confirmed the injury, with manager Xabi Alonso stating he will be sidelined at least until after the international break.

The 26-year-old French defender, who joined Chelsea for £52 million from Crystal Palace in the summer, has been a cornerstone of the Blues' defence, starting all but one of their 11 games across all competitions. His absence is a significant blow as Chelsea prepare for a crucial match against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Wesley Fofana is expected to replace Lacroix alongside Levi Colwill. Should Lacroix remain out until the end of the year, he will miss key fixtures against Liverpool, Manchester City, and Aston Villa, with hopes of returning for Newcastle's visit in early January.
