Nicolas Jackson and the celebration that reveals his Premier League revenge mission

Jackson has scored seven goals for Aston Villa since joining from Chelsea in August, including four in four Premier League games, and is thriving under Unai Emery after struggling with finishing at Stamford Bridge.

Nicolas Jackson has found a new lease of life at Aston Villa following his move from Chelsea at the end of August. The striker has scored seven goals for Emery's side, including a crucial double in Villa's 2-1 win over Manchester City last weekend that ended their 100 per cent record. He has now scored four goals in four Premier League appearances, establishing himself as the leading man in Villa's attack following Ollie Watkins' £50m departure to Al Hilal.

Jackson's resurgence stands in stark contrast to his two seasons at Chelsea, where he became defined by missed opportunities despite generating significant chances. During his first season under Mauricio Pochettino, he scored 17 goals in 44 appearances but underperformed his expected goals (xG) significantly, netting just 14 from 18.7 xG. The pattern continued under Enzo Maresca, scoring 10 from 12.3 xG. Disciplinary issues, including two red cards, compounded the narrative that he was wasteful and ill-equipped for the Premier League.

At Aston Villa, Jackson is delivering the clinical finishing that eluded him at Chelsea. He is pressing from the front, running the channels, and converting chances when they arrive—exactly what Emery demands from his striker. His current goal celebration, a throat-slash gesture inspired by Gladiator, suggests a player on a mission to prove his doubters wrong.
