Rangers predicted XI as Derek McInnes acts on criticism while leggy star drops out for Hampden showdown

McInnes expected to make changes for the semi-final, with Godfrey replacing Fernandez in defence and Rommens returning at left-back.

Rangers face Aberdeen in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final at Hampden after a 2-2 draw with Hearts midweek. Manager Derek McInnes has faced criticism for his team selection and tactical choices, particularly dropping striker Kevin Kelsy against Dundee and leaving out Badredine Bouanani at Tynecastle. McInnes defended centre-half Manny Fernandez at his pre-match press conference, but Fernandez's shaky display in Edinburgh—caught ball-watching for Claudio Braga's equaliser—has prompted speculation he could be rested. Ben Godfrey is expected to come in, with McInnes praising his attitude in training. Left-back James Penrice appeared leggy against Hearts and may be replaced by Belgian Tuur Rommens, who returns to fitness after joining from Westerlo in January. Winger Djeidi Gassama, who started at Tynecastle but struggled, is likely to drop to the bench with Bouanani recalled to add attacking sharpness. Record Sport predicts Rangers will line up in a 4-4-2 formation.
