Derek McInnes' experience backed to fire Rangers forward by Ibrox legend

Butcher backs McInnes to end Rangers' 15-year Premiership drought as they chase Celtic, currently four points behind after a nine-game unbeaten run.

Terry Butcher, the former Rangers defender who won three Scottish Premiership titles with the club in the late 1980s, has backed manager Derek McInnes to lead Rangers back to the top of the Scottish Premiership. Rangers currently sit four points behind Celtic after 10 games, but have recovered from a slow start to win at Parkhead last month and remain unbeaten in their last nine matches across all competitions.

Butcher praised McInnes' experience and mental strength, saying his leadership will help Rangers avoid the complacency that has plagued them in the past when beating Celtic. "Rangers have lived in the shadow of Celtic for a long time, so it's nice to get them back to where they have been and where they want to go," Butcher said. Rangers' last Premiership title came under Steven Gerrard six seasons ago.

Butcher was speaking as part of a Royal British Legion and MatchWornShirt campaign supporting the Poppy Appeal this Remembrance Sunday, with match-worn shirts to be auctioned to raise funds for veterans' causes.
