Aston Villa to take legal action against Jamie Carragher over 'unacceptable insults'

Aston Villa chairman Nassef Sawiris announced the club will pursue legal action against Carragher for comments dismissing Villa's status and telling fans to 'shut up' on a podcast.

Aston Villa announced Friday they will take legal action against Jamie Carragher over remarks made on the Stick to Football podcast. The former Liverpool defender had suggested Unai Emery should consider the Manchester United job, then responded to Villa fan criticism by telling them to "shut the f*** up". Carragher argued that football operates with a hierarchy, stating "Aston Villa will never be Man United" and listing clubs above Villa in the pecking order.

Chairman Nassef Sawiris issued a statement on X: "Aston Villa will initiate legal action against Jamie Carragher for his unacceptable insults about the club and its fans. Aston Villa will not allow anyone to stop our ascension in English and European football."

The article also covers Manchester United manager Michael Carrick's response to the club's poor form, saying challenging conversations and hard truths have been necessary as United seek to end their worst winless run since 2015. Carrick will attempt to turn things around at Chelsea on Saturday.
