Aston Villa takes legal action against Carragher over offensive comments

Aston Villa announced legal action against Jamie Carragher over offensive comments made on his podcast about the club and its supporters.

Aston Villa said it will pursue legal action against commentator Jamie Carragher following remarks he made on his 'Stick to Football' podcast. Carragher told Villa supporters to "shut the fuck up" and stated "Aston Villa will never be Manchester United," comments the club's president Nassef Sawiris called "unacceptable insults" against the entity and its fans.

The row also touched on speculation linking Villa manager Unai Emery with a potential move to Manchester United. Carragher later defended himself on social media, saying the comments were made in jest and pointing to years of praise he has given Emery and Villa, including celebrating their 2026 Europa League win in Istanbul.
