Alexis Mac Allister drops new hint about Liverpool future as big change revealed - 'Very difficult'

Mac Allister says his contract situation remains unresolved but hints new sporting director and ownership could change things; he's thriving under current manager after a difficult previous season.

Alexis Mac Allister has reiterated that his Liverpool future remains uncertain, with no progress since he publicly expressed disappointment in September at not being offered a new deal. The 27-year-old Argentina midfielder is contracted until 2028 but was frustrated that teammates Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch, who arrived the same summer, received extensions while he did not.

However, Mac Allister suggested recent changes at the club could alter the situation. "The situation didn't change. But there's a new sporting director. There is a new ownership coming into the club," he said, referring to Julian Ward's appointment and the 1892 Holdings consortium's minority stake purchase. "So everything can happen and we will see."

Despite the contract uncertainty, Mac Allister has flourished under manager Andoni Iraola, recording four goals and an assist in 13 appearances. He contrasted this with a difficult campaign under previous head coach Arne Slot, crediting Iraola's tactical approach and team cohesion for his improved form. "I feel like we are all connected. We are more compact and we all know what we have to do," he explained.
