Zakharyan ruled out of derby against Athletic after ankle injury

Zakharyan ruled out of Sunday's derby at Athletic Bilbao after twisting his ankle in Thursday training; expected back for Lyon match.

Arsen Zakharyan has been ruled out of Real Sociedad's Basque derby against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday after suffering an ankle injury during Thursday's training session. Manager Pellegrino Matarazzo confirmed the absence, stating the Russian forward twisted his ankle but the injury is minor and he is expected to return for the midweek Europa League fixture against Lyon.

Zakharyan's absence adds to Real Sociedad's injury list, which already includes Álvaro Odriozola and Beitia. The club has also opted not to include any outfield players from their reserve side for the second consecutive match, with Alex Marchal dropped to focus on gaining minutes with the B team. Goalkeeper Aitor Fraga remains the sole representative from the academy in the squad travelling to San Mamés.
