Three decades of Atlético's resistance against the German invader

Atlético Madrid have not lost at home to a German club in 30 years, including Bayern Munich, who drew 1-1 at the Metropolitano in 2020.

Atlético Madrid's home record against German opposition stretches back three decades without defeat. Bayern Munich, Europe's most successful club, have never won at Atlético's stadium across three visits: two losses at the old Vicente Calderón and a 1-1 draw at the Metropolitano on December 1, 2020, when Joao Félix gave Atlético the lead before Thomas Müller equalized.

Atlético's last home loss to a German side came on October 16, 1996, when Borussia Dortmund won 1-0 in the Champions League group stage, with Stefan Reuter scoring. Only Eintracht Frankfurt (1975) and Dynamo Dresden (1979) have beaten Atlético at home in Germany's football history, both in the 1970s.

Atlético's dominance over Bayern includes two 1-0 victories at the Vicente Calderón in the Champions League. Saúl Ñíguez's goal in the 2016 semi-final first leg proved decisive, and Yannick Carrasco scored in a group-stage meeting the following season. Jan Oblak and Koke remain from those Bayern victories.
