Preston improvement will be gradual - Alexander

Alexander says Preston must rebuild confidence gradually after winning just once this season and sitting six points from safety.

Preston North End manager Graham Alexander has acknowledged the club's struggles this season, with just one win in 90 minutes across all competitions leaving them six points adrift of the Championship safety line. The Lilywhites have managed only two points from a possible 24 since their most recent victory, a Lancashire derby win at home against Blackburn.

Alexander told BBC Radio Lancashire that confidence is understandably low but stressed the importance of a positive mindset. "Bit by bit, inch by inch, you get that good feeling back," he said, pointing to their recent performance against West Brom as evidence that results can improve without relying on confidence alone.

The manager emphasized the need to build a strong home record at Deepdale, noting that Preston's past success has been built on positive form at their stadium. With Sheffield United visiting on Tuesday, Alexander hopes last Saturday's performance can be the foundation for a turnaround.
