Referees confirm double error in Mbappé penalty

Spanish FA confirms referee Munuera Montero and VAR official Milla made clear errors awarding the penalty to Mbappé against Racing Santander on Sunday.

The Spanish Football Federation's 'Tiempo de Revisión' review confirmed on Wednesday that referee José Luis Munuera Montero and VAR official Luis Mario Milla made manifest errors in awarding a penalty to Kylian Mbappé in Real Madrid's match at Racing Santander on Sunday. The CTA (Technical Arbitration Committee) analysis found that while Prati's arm was in front of Mbappé as the Real Madrid forward tried to accelerate away with the ball in the box, there was no force applied and therefore "a clear absence of cause and effect." Milla should have intervened to call Munuera to the monitor to review the incident and overturn the decision. Mbappé converted the penalty, which proved decisive in Real Madrid's victory.
