OL: "Either we are complainers or we are competitors," Maciel's strong message after Fonseca's departure

Interim manager Maciel addresses the squad after Fonseca's departure to Sporting, emphasizing professionalism ahead of Thursday's Europa League trip to Real Sociedad.

Paulo Fonseca has officially left Lyon to join Sporting Portugal for €5 million. Jorge Maciel, Fonseca's former assistant, will take charge on an interim basis for the next two matches: Thursday's Europa League fixture at Real Sociedad (18:45) and Sunday's Ligue 1 game at Brest.

Maciel addressed the squad on Wednesday, stressing the need to move forward quickly. "In football, we don't have time to cry," he said. "Either we are complainers or we are competitors. We must move forward, we have no time to waste." He praised the group's professionalism and the special atmosphere created under Fonseca, urging players to respect the club's legacy and those departing.

Lyon currently sit 13th in the Europa League standings (out of 36 teams) after wins against Anderlecht (2-1) and Crystal Palace (3-2), followed by a 3-0 defeat to Hoffenheim.
