Lyon confirms manager change as interim Maciel to face press at Anoeta

Lyon confirms interim manager Jorge Maciel will face press ahead of Europa League tie at Real Sociedad, effectively announcing Paulo Fonseca's departure without an official statement.

Olympique Lyon has announced that Jorge Maciel, the club's interim manager and former assistant, will conduct the pre-match press conference at Real Sociedad's Anoeta stadium at 19:30 on the eve of their Europa League fixture. The announcement effectively confirms Paulo Fonseca's departure to Sporting CP, though Lyon has issued no official statement about either the manager change or Maciel's appointment. Maciel, 41, previously managed French side Valenciennes in 2023 and Benfica's reserve team in 2019. Goalkeeper Dominik Greif will also attend the press conference; he is a familiar face to Real Sociedad supporters after eliminating them from the Copa del Rey semi-finals with Mallorca in the 2023-24 season.
